Chef Robyn McArthur has prepared a number of "to-go" items for the market: pasta salad, potato salad, chunky tomato gazpacho, assorted wrap sandwiches, tangy flavored lemonades and her homemade granola. The Cafe also distributes a weekly "organic bag" of produce, coffees, cheeses and herbs from its Market booth. "To our loyal Market supporters, I am proud to announce that the City of Savannah has its very own SlowFood Chapter! I am so thrilled that this grassroots, global food advocacy group now has a presence right here in Savannah. This organization has united thousands of people with the common goal of improving awareness of our food sources. The SlowFood vision statement explains exactly that:
"Slow Food USA seeks to create dramatic and lasting change in the food system. We reconnect Americans with the people, traditions, plants, animals, fertile soils and waters that produce our food. We seek to inspire a transformation in food policy, production practices and market forces so that they ensure equity, sustainability and pleasure in the food we eat."
Join us we need your support! In the coming months we will be working with Slow Food USA to bring exciting programs and events to the Savannah area. The Market at Trustees' Garden will serve at the perfect venue for many of the upcoming programs, dinners, and educational curriculum and we thank the leadership there for their unyielding support of the movement.
Thanks and take it slow! Slow Food Savannah Chapter, Matthew Roher
